the New Zealand Department of Conservation allows only 40 independent hikers per day onto the Milford Track of the Fiordland National Park.  this makes for a very spiritual experience as you get most of the landscape to yourself during the 4 day hike.  it is dubbed the 8th wonder and the finest walk in the world.
